At Scottsdale Plastic Surgeons in Northern Scottsdale, our board-certified surgeons, Dr. Tsujimura and Dr. Holden, use the innovative Cellfina system for effective cellulite reduction with minimal discomfort to the patient. Using precision surgical technique and gentle vacuum pressure, the individual fibers that form the cellulite dimple are released. This safe, minimally invasive procedure is the only FDA approved procedure for long-term cellulite reduction to smooth the surfaces of the buttocks and thighs and enhanced body contours.

Procedure Technique

Cellfina cellulite reduction treatments are a minimally invasive procedure that safely and effectively remove the structural cause of cellulite and improves the contours of the body in the treated areas. Cellulite reduction treatments use a gentle vacuum suction to isolate the fiber creating the dimple of cellulite. The surgeon inserts a fine needle to precisely sever the fiber, which has not been shown to re-attach for the full length of the FDA study- 2 years.  Patients will be able to leave after the procedure, but they should avoid strenuous activity for at least 1 – 2 weeks.

What to Expect

For the first day or two after the treatment, the patient may see mild bruising, swelling, and redness, but this should subside quickly to reveal the patient’s results. Results are immediate. The patient notices a reduction in cellulite and skin dimpling. In the FDA study, most patients saw improved smoothness in the treated skin over time. Individual results vary in the amount of cellulite and by the number of areas treated.

Cellulite Reduction FAQs

What Is Cellulite?

Cellulite is the lumpy, dimpled flesh that usually appears on the thighs, hips, butt, and stomach. While cellulite is more common in women, it can also be found in men. The cause of cellulite is still unclear, but many doctors think it is fat swollen with toxins to create ripples on the surface of the skin, which may be caused by genetics, thin skin, and aging. Cellulite can be found on thin and overweight bodies, and while it is not considered a serious medical condition, it is considered undesirable and unattractive.

Length of Treatments?

The length of the treatment will depend on how many dimples are being treated, but most treatments take at least 2 – 4 hours. Patients should wear compression garments for the first week to reduce swelling and maintain comfort.

Recovery Tips?

To help speed recovery and fat loss, patients may wear compression garments for 1 week after their treatment. It is also helpful to the recovery process if the patient avoid strenuous activity, including exercise for 1 – 2 weeks.
