Overview

Some men will develop excess tissue on their chest during adolescence, similar to the appearance of a woman’s breasts. Known as gynecomastia, this condition accounts for approximately 65 percent of male breast disorders. It is often caused by a hormonal imbalance, the use of steroids or certain medications containing estrogen. Male breast reduction surgery with Dr. Tsujimura at Scottsdale Plastic Surgeons, offers our patients the opportunity to reduce the size of their breasts and improve the look of their chest. If you are considering a male breast reduction surgery, you should consult with our team in Scottsdale, AZ. We can give your chest a masculine contour, and increase your self-confidence with or without your shirt on.

What Are the Benefits of Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia, or excess breast tissue in men, can be a source of frustration and embarrassment. Male breast reduction surgery in Scottsdale, AZ offers several transformative benefits, including:

  • Eliminates unwanted chest fat and tissue
  • Minimal downtime
  • Delivers dramatic, long-lasting results
  • Makes exercise and physical activity easier
  • Enhances a more sculpted, masculine appearance
  • Boosts self-esteem and confidence
  • Increases comfort in places like the beach or pool
  • Defines and contours the chest for a more toned look

Surgical Technique

Breast reduction surgery for men is done through a specialized technique. Some men with milder cases of gynecomastia may only require liposuction to attain good results. This is performed to remove the fatty tissue residing under the skin. During this approach, a small incision is made around the areola (peri-areolar). This allows access for a suction device to remove the fat tissue. In the majority of cases of gynecomastia, an en bloc resection of excessive breast tissue and liposuction is necessary. This can be accomplished from a peri-areolar incision. In severe cases tightening of loose skin and possible nipple/areola lifting may be required through various incisions. This procedure may leave scars on the chest.

Rhinoplasty - Scottsdale, AZ - I couldn't be happier with my new nose.I hated my nose for as long as I can remember, when I looked in the mirror or at pictures of myself that's all I saw. The first time I met with Dr.Holden he pin pointed my exact issues with my nose with out my having to tell him. He was very kind and patient and answered all of my questions. While talking to him it was obvious he knew what he was talking about and was an expert in his field. I felt so comfortable and confident with him that I canceled my other consultes (with another surgon I used in the past) and scheduled by surgery for the next week. Dr.Holden also saw me at every one of my follow up appointments, not some nurse, which was very important to me and helped with my post surgery anxiety. With being 34 years old and a mother of 3 it was very important to me for my new nose to look natural. It does. I am thrilled when I look in the mirror and the people close to me have all remarked how wonderful it looks. While people that I haven't shared my surgery haven't noticed or at least not enough to say "oh my gosh you got a nose job!" I still look like me. :)

Dr Holden is Amazing. Definitely Book a Consultation. - Dr Holden preformed my rhinoplasty and is now one of my favorite people. He is truly a caring, compassionate and extremely talented physician. I have medical background and within minutes of meeting Dr Holden, could tell how incredibly intelligent and knowledgeable he is. The day of my surgery I was very nervous and he literally held my hand and talked everything through with me. My nose has turned out so beautifully and I will definitely post pictures when my swelling subsides a bit. I could not be happier!

If you are looking for the best, look no further!  I came upon Dr. Paul Holden by word of mouth from a past patient.  The idea of finding a facial plastic surgeon through an online search alone was daunting and I am incredibly grateful for this referral.  I give Dr. Paul Holden and his staff a 10/10 (and I am a tough critic!).  Everyone in the office and operating room was supportive, available to answer any and all questions, put my mind at ease and made me feel confident in my decision to move forward with an elective surgery.  Might I add, I did my consultation via phone and did not meet Dr. Holden until the day of surgery. The downtime involved as compared the  result that I received made it completely worthwhile.  I am just two weeks post-op and could not possibly be any happier with the entire experience.  I had an in person consultation with another surgeon who told me to come see him in 10 years for the procedure.  Why would I want to spend my 40’s not looking the best I could?  Dr. Holden is kind, intelligent, personable and a very talented surgeon.  He is well respected and admired by his staff.  A testament to the type of person Dr. Holden is:Three days after my surgery my five year old son had an accident and required stitches on his face and inside his mouth.  I went out on a limb and called the office to see if he could stitch he him up rather than going to the ER.  One hour later I was in his office getting my little guy all fixed up.  He was booked with back to back appointments yet he spent nearly an hour stitching my son’s face up perfectly. Two weeks later he has only a light pink scar.  I can’t imagine what the result may have been had I gone to the emergency room.

About Us

During/After Surgery

All male breast reduction procedures are performed under monitored anesthesia care (MAC) sedation as an outpatient procedure at our surgical facility. The surgery typically lasts 2 -3 hours.  Following surgery, there will be some swelling and bruising and a compression garment should be worn for 2-3 weeks. Most patients are able to resume normal work schedules within a few days, and incorporate exercise within 4 weeks. This surgery allows men to feel more confident when exposing their chest due to a firmer, flatter chest. In most cases, scarring is inconspicuous.

Will This Help my Pecs?

Every man is born with some soft tissue covering his pectoralis muscles. When this breast tissue overgrows into larger breasts, the pecs are often hidden. Through male breast reduction surgery, the excessive tissue is removed so the natural contour and shape of the chest wall can be seen. Men who wish to tone and strengthen their chest muscles will have equal opportunity to do so. Strength training will help lead to optimal results once this tissue has been removed.

Is Liposuction Always Needed?

In most cases, yes. The soft tissue and fat that collects in excess will need to be removed using liposuction. There are many liposuction techniques to consider. Some are less invasive and can help the skin become tighter on the chest wall. These methods can be discussed during your consultation.

What About Scarring?

Incisions for this surgery are well concealed. They are usually placed around or near the areola and are typically small enough that scarring is minimized. Over time, the incision lines will fade and become almost nonexistent for most men.
